CHENNAI: Balachander’s last rites were held at 4 pm at the Besant Nagar Electric crematorium. Unfortunately, Kamal Haasan was not be able to make it as he  was set to take a long haul flight from California, only on Wednesday morning and was set to arrive after the funeral. “He was expected to arrive later tonight and meet the family, but because they wanted to finish the last rites given the condition of his body, they informed him that it would be better not to come. Accordingly, he changed his plans despite badly wanting to come.” said his representative.

Kamal and KB’s association goes back some 36 years and has produced some 40 odd films. KB’s funeral was supposed to be held on Christmas, but was been pushed up to Wednesday itself, “We were basically planning to cremate him tomorrow, but we had to observe the Kuligai time. And according to it, the time between 2 and 2:50 is ideal,” said a relative of the late director.
