Awards Presented to Handloom Weavers

CHENNAI: Minister for Handlooms and Textiles S Gokula Indira presented awards to handloom weavers who excelled in terms of production, sales and creating innovative designs of handlooms, recently. S Vairavel, member of Thirubhuvanam Silk Weavers Cooperative Society, received the Best Weaver award for 2014-15, and a cheque of `1 lakh. As many as 180 weavers received awards with cash incentives to the tune of `6 lakh for the years 2009-10, 2010-2011 and 2011-2012. The Minister also gave away appointment orders to 200 workers and 20 technicians employed at the Ramanathapuram District Cooperative Spinning Mill at Achankulam village. Harmander Singh, secretary, Handlooms, Handicrafts, Textiles and Khadi Department and TN Venkatesh, managing director, Cooptex, also spoke on the occasion.
