An auto driver was arrested for biting the ear lobe of an 18-year-old kulfi seller after a quarrelling with him over dry fruits missing in the kulfi he had, here on Friday midnight.

It all began when auto driver G Dinesh (25), a resident of Narayana Street in Ayanavaram, was walking down Konnur High Road along with two friends and approached kulfi seller Vimalesh (18), a resident of Vinobaji Nagar in GKM Colony near Peravallur.

After a bit of haggling on the price, he agreed to buy kulfi for Rs 20 per stick. While having his kulfi, he complained that it had no nuts, which led to a heated exchange of words. Dinesh then got physical and bit Vimalesh’s ear lobe.

Passersby alerted the police who rushed to the spot and took Vimalesh to the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for treatment.

Dinesh tried to scoot, but was caught by passersby and handed over to the police.

Vimalesh was treated as an outpatient and the torn off earlobe sutured at the hospital.

Ayanavaram police registered a case and arrested Dinesh. A local magistrate on Saturday remanded him in judicial custody.
