Vasan Eye Care, as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility, launched the first ever social media app for eye donation on Tuesday .
The ‘Sight Ambassadors’ app received more than 200 applications from students and members of Society of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Anna University.
Every donor logged in to their Facebook account and registered for ‘Sight Ambassadors’ using Vasan Eye Care’s application. This will be a permanent application in Vasan Eye Care’s Facebook page, where anyone, anywhere in the world with a Facebook account, can express their desire to donate their eye by filling in the online pledge form www.facebook.com/vasanhealth.
Stressing that corneal transplant was the need of the hour, Dr Anand Parthasarathy, medical director, Vasan Eye Care, pointed out that the demand outnumbered the available donor tissues. “Transplants are the only effective means for replacement of human tissues in the eye. Gift of sight is very precious and valuable for millions of people all over the world who are visually impaired,” he said.
C Chellappan, Dean, CEG Campus, Anna University, described the eye pledge as an humble effort from SEEE to support fellow human beings.
