Shopkeepers in Burma Bazaar downed the shutters on Friday condemning “stringent raids” of the anti-video piracy cell.

They said the police are targeting only the Burma Bazaar area while the pirated CD/DVDs are freely available in other areas of the city. “In 2004, a senior official who spoke on behalf of the government, told that we can sell pirated CD/DVDs of non-Tamil films...But, recently, police are arresting shopkeepers who are selling English films,” said Shahul Hameed, a office bearer of traders association.
