SaReGaMa honour for Balamuralikrishna

CHENNAI: The aura in Russian Cultural Centre was entirely divine as musician Dr M Balamuralikrishna was felicitated ahead of his 84th birthday on July 6.

SaReGaMa India Limited, one of the music recording companies honoured the stalwart for his excellence in his musical career. The event began with the unveiling of  an infographic on Balamuralikrishna, by renowned musicians, MS Viswanathan, TV Gopalakrishnan and music composer Vidyasagar.

MSV launched the CD pack, whose  first copy was received by Vidyasagar. The infographic ‘Celestial Treasure’ captures key people and moments in Dr Balamuralikrishna’s life, followed by a numerical look at his career, the concerts he has played worldwide, the instruments he played and the list of his innovations, besides the unforgettable hits and list of awards and honours given to him.

The stage was then set for the performances of Krishnakumar and Binni Krishnakumar, who performed Balamuralikrishna’s own renditions and ragas.

Sumugham raga, which Balamuralikrishna came up with, was performed by the singers at the outset, followed by rohini and thillana. Kumar Krishnan, vice president, SaReGaMa, gave his address, following which the guests spoke on the legendary musician.

Speaking on the occasion, SaReGaMa India senior vice president, Music Business, Adarsh Gupta said, “SaReGaMa is honoured and privileged to be a part of this felicitation. Carnatic music is an integral part of our cultural heritage and we are committed to preserving and promoting this through a series of such humble initiatives.”
