Kathipara-flyover

CHENNAI: A 30-year-old man travelling in the front seat of an SUV was killed when the vehicle rammed the sidewall of the Kathipara flyover on Friday.

Police said a just-married couple along with five other family members and friends were returning from Kancheepuram when the accident claimed the life of the groom’s elder brother.

The vehicle was approaching the Kathipara flyover from Meenambakkam when Arun, who was at the wheel, got confused whether to take the flyover or the side lane and rammed the vehicle into the sidewall.

“After the wedding the group was heading to the groom Rohit’s house in Kotturpuram. As the vehicle approached the flyover, the driver was confused whether or not to take the flyover. He changed his mind in the last second and swerved the vehicle and hit the sidewall,” said inspector (traffic investigation wing) Thiagarajan.

While all other passengers in the vehicle suffered mild injuries, Murugan was killed on the spot.

Police said Murugan’s injuries did not seem to be grave, but could have died due to shock caused by the sudden collision.
