Kabbadi Tourney to Mark QMC's Centenary Year

The tournament organised jointly with Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India, Tamil Nadu Amateur Kabaddi Association and Chennai district Kabaddi Association will have as many as 66 teams participating.

CHENNAI: Queen Mary’s College will be organising an all India ‘A’ grade women kabaddi tournament from August 6 to 9 as part of its centenary year celebrations. The college principal Akthar Begum made the announcement about the tournament and unveiled the rolling trophy on Tuesday.

The tournament organised jointly with Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India, Tamil Nadu Amateur Kabaddi Association and Chennai district Kabaddi Association will have as many as 66 teams participating.

The competition will have league and knock out stages. The winner gets to take home a cash prize of `1 lakh along with a rolling trophy, runners up with Rs 60,000 and a trophy and Rs 30,000 with a trophy for third place. The tournament will also have prizes for best player, who will take home an LCD TV and best rider and catcher would be awarded Rs 10,000 cash each. That apart, every day, a best player would be chosen and awarded Rs 5000.

About 5,000 spectators are expected for the all India tournament that would take place from 8 am to 10 am.
