CHENNAI: Asan Memorial Association, an organisation that runs 11 educational institutions in the city, has instituted awards and merit-based educational scholarships as part of its Golden Jubilee celebrations.
One of the awards, Asan National News Media Award for Journalism, will recognise the best editorial content with social relevance.
“The winner will be selected from the nominations received from all newspapers by a three-member jury comprising intellectuals from journalistic, academic and cultural fields. The award that comprises a plaque, citation and cash component worth `1 lakh will be presented in April 2015,” said Sashi Kumar, journalist and chairman of the Golden Jubilee Celebration Committee.
AK Gopalan Navati scholarship, which provides free education, books and uniforms for students studying at Asan schools based on their economic need, will be awarded on a case-to-case basis. “This scholarship is named after the founder A K Gopalan to commemorate his 90th birth anniversary. Class-IV employees who wish to enrol their wards in Asan schools will benefit from this,” said Shyamala Jayaprakash, general secretary, Asan Memorial Education.
A number of cultural, literary and outreach activities are also planned as part of the celebrations.
