CHENNAI: A 23-year-old woman killed her two children, who were suffering from mental health issues, in her residence at Thiruvotriyur before killing herself.
Police said Ranjitha(23), a home-maker, was distraught over the health of both the children — a three-year-old daughter and a six-year-old son. She had been complaining about their health problems to her husband Magimai Raj who was a clerk in a private firm at Manali.
She had consulted several paediatricians and psychiatrists in search of a cure for her children. However, the children failed to make any progress in the treatment.
On Saturday evening, she took the drastic step at the height of her depression about the children. She first hanged Joshua Merwin, her son, and then caught hold of her daughter Vinolia and hanged her too. Then, she too hanged herself.
Magimai Raj returned in the evening and found the door latched from inside, so he peeped into the windows to find his wife hanging.
He forced open the door with the help of the neighbours and took the three to a hospital in the vicinity where the doctors declared them dead on arrival. The bodies were moved to Government Stanley Hospital for postmortem. Sathangadu police have registered a case and are investigating.
