CHENNAI: Condoling the demise of Cardinal Duraisamy Simon Lourdusamy, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has described him as the ‘pillar of Catholic community’.
“I join the multitude of my Catholic brothers and sisters in beseeching the Almighty to allow his soul to rest in peace,” the Chief Minister said and added that the Cardinal’s rise from humble roots and his service to the Church would forever be etched in the history of the World. He was a true believer in the fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man.
The CM recalled that Cardinal Lourdusamy was the 4th Indian Cardinal and first Tamil Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church and the first Curial Cardinal of Asia outside of the Middle East.
