CHENNAI: Just as Anjali has completed dubbing for a Telugu film and is on the verge of signing a Tamil project, director Kalanjiyam has raked up one of last year’s bigger controversies, all over again. The director, who was accused by the pretty Engeyum Eppodhum star of ‘threatening and controlling her’, has said that if she commits to any films other than her own, he’ll slap her with a restraining order. “It has come to my notice that Anjali is signing films in Kannada and Telugu and is even about to do so in Tamil. She must give a callsheet for my film Oor Suthi Puranam and complete it first, else I will be forced to take legal action and restrain any of her films from ever releasing,” he said in a harsh statement.
As people will remember, all hell broke loose when Anjali skipped town while shooting in Hyderabad, issued a statement that Kalanjiyam and her ‘aunt’ Bharathi Devi were controlling her and went off the grid for a week, last April. When she resurfaced, she sought police protection and kept a low profile — having limited appearances such as in Settai and an item song In Suriya’s Singam 2.
A couple of days ago, it surfaced that Anjali was on a re-entry spree and was readying herself to shoot with Kannada actor Puneet Rajkumar. And this has made Kalanjiyam fume, “I have gone to all the film chambers, associations, trade bodies...everyone. And no one has been able to get her to do what she committed to do. That is why I have to go to court,” he said.
But Anjali seems unfazed by all the threats, “I am completely problem free now and will be starting my Kannada movie with Puneeth Rajkumar. No one can stop my movie shoots. Everyone knows that I have not made any mistake so they are supporting me and helping me. Who ever wants to make movies with me, please don’t worry. I will justify my roles as I have before and will always do so,” she said.
