City Court Puts Film Release on Hold

CHENNAI: A civil court in the city on Friday extended the stay on the release of Vanavarayan Vallavarayan,  a Tamil film, till June 18.

The court issued the interim injunction order while hearing a petition filed by one B Pandian, proprietor of Gayathiri Movie Makers.

The film, starred by actors Krishna, Ma Ka Pa Anand, a television jockey, and Monal Kajal, is directed by Rajmohan.

The sound tracks of the film, scored by Yuvan Shankar Raja, were released recently.

In his petition, Pandian stated that he had invested `19 lakh for making the movie by selling his house and pledging jewellery.

He claimed that he had to sell the rights of the film to K S Madhubala of Mahalakshmi Movies for `15 lakh under pressure.

However, the Mahalakshmi Movies had paid him only `5 lakh so far.

He had filed the petition last month before the vacation court, which passed an interim injunction restraining the producer from releasing the film till June 6.

When the matter came up for hearing before the XIII Assistant Judge R Naraja, the judge extended the stay till June 18.
