CHENNAI: Vishal and Shekhar ‘really’ love their fans. This much was evident on Friday night, when the duo went on stage to play as scheduled at White Orchid in Bengaluru, despite the event organisers (Claret Sun Events) absconding with part of their payment, just hours before the concert. “Normally we leave Mumbai only after receiving the full amount,” said Shekhar Ravjiani shortly after their flight landed back in their home city on Saturday. “But the promoters, PhaniShri and Sunil Kashyap begged and pleaded,” he added, “so we agreed”.

According to an official statement made to CE, things were amiss well before showtime for the music director collaborative - one half of whom (Vishal Dadlani) has become quite the sensation in Kollywood recently after lending his vocals for Oh Penne (Vanakkam Chennai) and more recently, AR Muragadoss’ much-awaited Kaththi. Their rooms were substandard and not as per the signed contract, Kashyap, one of their liaisons had disappeared and the remaining promoter PhaniSri repeatedly asked the musicians to wait as the clock ticked closer to 6 pm, which is when the concert was to start, they told us. “Then we got a call from our crew at the venue, saying that the crowd had been let in,” Shekhar says and adds for emphasis,”This was when she was still telling us to wait for our payment at a hotel an hour away from the venue”.

It was around this time that Vishal put out a tweet to fans: ‘Apologies to the fans for the inconvenience and delay. We will NOT allow the concert to be cancelled at any cost. On our way to the venue!’ After a three-hour wait, fans were rewarded for their patience when V+S finally reached the venue at 9.30pm. Despite saving the day, the musicians found that return flights had been cancelled in the morning. “We will now initiate legal action against Claret Sun, as they have  caused damage to our reputations,” he said.
