CHENNAI: When biker chick Alisha Abdullah first read that Michael Schumacher was out of his coma, she thought it was fake news. “I remember giving it a miss because just a week ago, there were reports of an F1 doctor saying that no good news would be coming,” she says. And it doesn’t come as a surprise that she’s taking her time to process the good news, considering how hard this fan took reports of his accident. “After he was hospitalised, I just completely stopped watching F1,” Alisha admits, still sounding shaken, “Now that I’m sure the good news is real, I’m going to cut a cake, go go-karting…the works!” In fact, she adds with a laugh, “I was just on Facebook a while ago, and a friend of mine posted that he was buying a new car, after hearing about Schumi’s recovery.”

Though not really as high on adrenaline, Alisha has been keeping herself pretty busy. “Irumbu Kuthirai is coming out soon,” she smiles, and goes on, “Shooting for the second one should begin in August when the male lead’s dates are decided”. Based on The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, she says. “I’ve been practising my Tamil and my expressions quite a bit.” Unlike her first film where Alisha plays a small role, she will be playing one of the leads here, “I’m even taking acting classes,” the newcomer to Kollywood tells us. This is quite the opposite of what Alisha is used to while on the track. “You see I’m not used to this,” she admits with a smile. “I’m not an actress. What I do is make monkey faces and laugh behind my helmet!”

Despite being told by the director that she would be playing a serious biker in her first film, Alisha clarifies that what was eventually shot for the film was far from it. “Honestly, I’m disappointed,” she says. “They said I would be playing this lady biker and there would be scenes on a track…” But when the time came for the scene to be canned, it turns out this first time actor with a need for speed just played a girl on a bike. “In the film, I’m Johny Tri Nguyen’s girlfriend. It’s a negative role. And basically we have this big biker gang of not so good people,” she explains. Also she adds, with a laugh, “Half the time we shot, my bike wasn’t working!”
