Pay a Tad More for Season Ticket

Pay a Tad More for Season Ticket

CHENNAI:  If you were fretting over the big hike in the Suburban Railway monthly season ticket cost, relax. The cost has indeed gone up, but by just a tad. The new fare structure will kick in from Saturday. Last Friday, when the fare revision was first  announced, the new slabs were 1.7 to 3.5 times the existing fare. That was rationalised on Tuesday and a new 14.2% across-the-board fare hike was announced. For example, a monthly season ticket up to 20 km - the distance from Chennai Beach to Velacherry on the MRTS - will now cost you `100 for second class travel. That is `15 more than what you pay now. The Friday announcement had scaled it up to `300. Similarly, your Chennai Beach-Tambaram season ticket will now cost `185, which is `15 more that the current cost.
