CHENNAI: A local court on Wednesday dismissed the bail petition filed by a 26-year-old man, who was arrested for driving his vehicle in a drunken state, leading to death of a senior citizen. On October 9, Devaraj (26), allegedly drove his pick up van in a rash manner under the influence of alcohol and hit Veeraraghavalu (72) , who died on the spot. Police charged Devaraj under section 308 of IPC (attempt to commit culpable homicide). On Wednesday, he moved a bail plea. The public prosecutor opposed the bail citing a SC ruling which stated that death due to drunken driving should be treated as murder under section 302 of IPC and dismissed it.
