CHENNAI: Eminent legal personalities were presented with life time achievement awards at MM Convention Centre, Saveetha University on Wednesday.
The occasion was to mark National Law Day and the anniversary of the adoption of the Indian Constitution, by the School of Law, Saveetha University.
Chancellor Dr NM Veeraiyan, felicitated the chief guest NM Venkatachala Moorthy, former Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court.
The life-time achievement awardees were V K Muthusamy, senior advocate R Muthukumaraswamy, Justice SK Krishnan, R Veeramani, chairman, Granite Natural Stones and Products Panel of CAPEXIL and D Selvam.
Veeraiyan said that the National Law Day was being celebrated for the first time in Saveetha University and emphasised on the duties and responsibilities enshrined in the Constitution. Vice-Chancellor Dr Mythili Bhaskaran stressed the need for personal ethics for guidance in every human endeavour.
The chief guest highlighted the significance of the Law Day Celebrations, citing the principle of res judicata (finality of judgment) that is applied to petitions filed under Article 32 of the Constitution of India. Veeramani said learning law would enable one to do anything under the sun. “There are many avenues open for a law graduate today,” he said. Vice-principal Dr S Ramu proposed a vote of thanks.
