CHENNAI: A three-member team from Maharishi Vidya Mandir with the quirky name ‘Two and a half men’ was crowned champions of the Murugappa Madras Quotient Quiz held in Chennai on Saturday.

More than 280 three- member teams from across 59 schools in Chennai had registered for the quiz. Six teams were shortlisted for the final round after they emerged victorious in the preliminary round — crossing entertaining questions on the history, culture and cinema of Chennai. The auditorium resonated with sounds of ‘Sir, Sir’ when Quizmaster Dr Navin Jayakumar proceeded to ask the audience for answers to the questions asked in the preliminary round.

Organised by the Murugappa Group as part of its contribution to the Madras Week celebrations, the 2014 edition of the Murugappa Madras Quotient Quiz is in it’s fourth edition.

It was conducted for the first time in 2011 with 96 teams, and steadily grew in size to 212 teams in 2012, and 242 teams in 2013. This edition had innovative rounds like ‘Pictionary’, ‘Grid connect’ and a Live Round in addition to the usual rounds of quizzing.

The prizes were distributed by Mr Ramesh KB Menon, director-HR of Murugappa Group.

The first runners-up and the second runners-up were Jill Jung Juk (Dharanesh, Varn Suresh and Vigneshwara from PSBB Nungambakkam) and What’s in a team name (Shubhankar Agrawal, VR Akash and Saikrishna from AMM Matriculation school) respectively.
