PUDUCHERRY: Puducherry Social Justice Forum has urged Chief Minister N Rangasamy to follow the reservation pattern in the direct recruitment to 525 posts in the education department.
In a memorandum submitted to the CM on Monday evening, forum coordinator Geethanathan said the education department had called for filling 525 posts of primary school teachers, physical education teachers and lecturers through direct recruitment.
The advertisement for filling the posts had mentioned  27 per cent reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and 57 per cent for General category. This reduces the existing (34 per cent) quota for the Backward Classes, which includes Most Backward Class (MBC), Extremely Backward Class (EBC), BC Muslims and Backward Tribes while the quota for the Open General has been increased from 50 per cent to 57 per cent.
This reduction of quota for BCs had affected the prospects of sub quota for MBCs and EBCs.The forum leader pointed out that the posts, which are called for by the education department for direct recruitment comes under the purview of the decision-making power of the Union Territory administration.
The forum requested Chief Minister N Rangasamy to fill the posts by implementing 34 per cent quota for BCs.Pointing out that the last date of receiving applications is June 17, he said instructions needed to be issued at the earliest to follow the reservation norms.
CPI State secretary R Viswanathan, who was in the delegation, pointed out that when the Centre had directed to follow 50 per cent reservation for general category in teachers' appointment and 50 per cent for others, the NR Congress government is following 57 per cent for general and the rest for others. How could this be legally correct, he questioned.
