CHENNAI: Espousing the cause of primary education in one’s mother tongue, ISRO director and prominent scientist Mylsamy Annadurai credited his achievements to his education in Tamil, at a function to mark the 80th birthday of Tamil writer Manavai Mustafa.
Addressing a gathering of Mustafa’s fans and well-wishers at the Indian Officers Association building in Royappetah on Sunday, Annadurai said that the current and future generations should be encouraged to speak and think in Tamil. “I came up in life because I was educated in tamil. Our children are not speaking in Tamil, we must encourage and ensure that it is corrected,” he said.
To drive his point further, Annadurai said that through his interactions with prominent scientists from countries like South Korea and Germany, he learnt that they were all educated in their mother tongues.
He also thanked Mustafa for his contribution to Tamil language and said that he had an emotional attachment to his writings. The other guests at the event included Ira Gandhi, Dr Manimegalai Kannan and Idayatullah Haji.
