Diamonds may be the best investment, but does the investment look alluring after two decades or more? The question prompted a young Akshita Garg to explore the precious stone. As a result, she came up with designs and personalised jewellery for all those who love diamonds. After a number of exhibitions and a couple of awards for her work, Akshita launched her first store ‘Akshita Garg Sparkling Jewels’ at the Radisson Blu, City Centre, Egmore, on Monday.
Akshita says, “It all began when I wanted to buy a diamond ring and couldn’t fine one which appealed to my taste. In Chennai, we have lots of them offering the classic pieces that lose the appeal with time. My collection is an answer to all those looking for those modern pieces of jewellery with a range of options.” Sparkling Jewels has a variety of fine jewellery—necklaces, earrings, pendants, temple jewellery and polka. Playing around with the inherent uniqueness of gold and diamonds to bring them together to make a unique piece, Akshita says that she is looking at covering a market which wants to look at wearing diamond every day rather than reserving it for special occasions. Inspired by a gamut of culture and places, Akshita’s jewellery broadens the options. Akshita says, “These designs have been inspired from a range of topics—from architecture to a comet. I have focused on pieces that are for all occasions,” she adds.
After a study of the market for over three years, Akshita, who holds diplomas in diamond evaluation, diamond assortment, jewellery designing, coloured stone grading, etc., decided to start her own store. Akshita is the winner of The Brand Achiever Award 2015 - Emerging Jewellery Designer of the Year - South India, and has been holding exhibitions of her jewellery collection.“During my research about the market here, I realised about 50 per cent of them buy jewellery from Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad, though the top diamonds are available in the market here. Any jeweller can give you the qaulity you ask for. My focus is on the design and its customisation according to the requirements of the customers. Since this is a new store, the prices are also the best one can get,” she adds.
