CHENNAI: Chennai: Latha Rajinikanth, in a statement made on her behalf, has brushed off the FIR filed against her at a Bangalore police station as routine, “normal course of events,” when a case is registered.
Ad Bureau Advertising made public the fact that they had filed a case against Rajinikanth’s wife for having ‘falsely’ used a letter from a non-existent body called The Publishers and Broadcasters Welfare Association of India to slap a gag order against the firm and several other media outlets. In this connection, an FIR was filed at the Halasuru (Ulsoor) Gate police station, last week.
Ad Bureau is the firm that has been locking horns with the Rajinikanth family and Mediaone Global Entertainment for payment of dues for financing the Superstar’s Kochadaiiyaan, in which they claim that Rs 6.2 crore is yet to be repaid.
Kochadaiiyaan was the photorealistic motion capture flick directed by Soundarya Rajinikanth, that sank without a trace at the box office. Defending her actions, Latha called Ad Bureau’s chairman Abirchand Nahar and his wife ‘malicious cheats and extortionists’.
She said that she would not bend to the pressure and threatened punitive action against them.
“We will pursue the matter legally by all means possible against them,” she said.
The interim gag order that was granted by a Bangalore court in December 2014, was rolled back in May 2015 after the judge noted that the primary application of the order lay in Chennai.
Subsequently, Ad Bureau wrote to the Bangalore Press Club (under whose address the mysterious Welfare Association’s letter showed them as functioning from) and found that no such association or body existed.
Using this information, Ad Bureau filed a case against Latha Rajinikanth for using fake documents in a court of law and the matter is currently under investigation.
