CHENNAI: Just four days after a railing slipped from the elevated Metro rail corridor and killed a motorist, the Metro work perhaps contributed again to an accident in which two youngsters speeding on a motorcycle died on Sunday.

Police claimed the two youth were speeding with the motorcycle. There was loose mud and gravel on the road too because of the metro rail work and the motorcycle would have skidded on that. The accident happened around 7 am when M Sathish Kumar (23), a B Com Student of a college in Thuraipakkam, and A Arun (17), a class XII student, were going on the motorcycle down GST road. When they were taking a turn on GST Road just before the Kathipara bridge, the motorcycle skidded, tossing both on the road.
“Both suffered severe head injuries. Sathish died on the spot while Arun died on the way to hospital,” said police. Both had no helmets. It was also alleged that they were racing with a few others on the road. Locals said the loose mud and blue metal stones spilled on the road from the metro rail site had led to the skidding.
“Even if that was the case, they were clearly over speeding which made them lose balance when they were taking the turn,” the investigating officer claimed.
Both were residents of MGR Nagar, KK Nagar. Sathish Kumar had recently brought the bike and took his friend Arun for a ride when the accident took place.
Police claimed the two were planning to take part in a bike race on GST Road, but it could not be confirmed. A probe is on.
