CHENNAI: A group of 21 yoga practitioners on Sunday began a 30-hour, non-stop yoga session at the University of Madras’ campus to enter the Limca Book of Records.
Using the opportunity to scientifically study the effects of yoga on the human body, a team of doctors from the Madras Medical College is conducting pre- and post-tests on the 21 practitioners to find out the changes of non-stop yoga practise at the biochemical level. The practitioners belong to the Mahayogam, a yoga training institution headquartered in Kancheepuram. They were scheduled to practise 162 asanas non-stop for 30 hours beginning at 6 am on Sunday and concluding the yoga marathon at 12 pm Monday.
“They will not consume anything but water at short intervals,” said Ramesh Rishi of the institution.
The 21, including three women, were chosen after tests found them physically fit for the arduous task, Ramesh Rishi said.
