Octogenarian Dies Days After Attack

CHENNAI: An octogenarian who was attacked and robbed by a friend in Pazhavanthangal two days ago, succumbed to injuries at the hospital on Sunday.

According to police,  Zakku Bai (86), of Rathanpuram in Pazhavanthagal, was staying with her daughter-in-law Sri Vidya (34), and her grandchildren while her son works in Hyderabad. Their neighbour Karthik visited the family on November 27.  Sri Vidya had asked him to check a few wirings at the house and went out.  Karthik, who sensed how vulnerable Zakku Bai was, hit her with a rod in the head. He then stole gold and other valuables.  Before he could leave, Sri Vidya turned up at the house with the children. Karthik attacked Sri Vidya as well and fled the spot.  He was picked up during a vehicle check by police.
