Southern Railways Announces Special Trains to Chennai

Southern Railway has suspended suburban train services between Beach and Tambaram for the third day on Friday.

CHENNAI: Southern Railway has suspended suburban train services between Beach and Tambaram for the third day on Friday since tracks remained waterlogged, even as it announced special trains from Tirunelveli and Rameswaram to the city.

According to an official release here, Chennai Beach to Tirunelveli special train (via Katpadi, Villupuram, Tiruchchirappalli and Madurai) and  Chennai Beach to Rameswaram (via Katpadi, Salem, Karur, Tiruchchirappalli,  Karakkudi) will leave Chennai Beach 12.30 hrs on December 05. Train No 06153 Arakkonam - Thiruvananthapuram Special will leave Arakkonam at 10.30 hrs on 05.12.2015. The train will stop at Katpadi, Jolarpettai, Salem, Erode, Coimbatore, Palakkad, Trichur, Alwaye, Ernakulam and Kottayam. Train No 06151 Kanniyakumari - Mangalore special will leave  Kanniyakumari at 12.30  hrs on on December 5. A special train from Chennai  Beach  to  Hyderabad  will leave Chennai  Beach at 14.00 hrs and another special train from Chennai Beach to Kakinada   will leave Chennai Beach at 11.30 hrs on 05.12.2015.

While Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) trains are operated every 45 minutes between Chennai Beach and Arakkonam to give connectivity for  passengers coming by air to Arakkonam Naval base, skeleton services are run between Tiruvottiyur and Sullurpeta. Senior Officers have also been deputed to Arakkonam for coordination, the statement added.

Meanwhile, efforts are on to resume operations between Beach and Tambaram. The PSC girder of up suburban line shifted laterally by 60 cm due to heavy flow in Adyar river.
