Narcotics Worth Rs 3 Crore Seized, 4 Arrested

CHENNAI: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized narcotic substance worth nearly `3 crore from two passengers at the Central Railway Station on Saturday.

Based on a tip-off that narcotics smuggled here was being exported from a city godown, the DRI officials traced the suspects to Tamil Nadu Express at the Central Railway Station. A thorough search ensued and it was found that the white crystalline substance concealed among blankets and clothes was 25.160 kg of Amphetamine worth `2.51 crore in the international market.

The DRI officials said the passengers confessed to having carried the substance. Searches at the godown at Seven Well area in George Town yielded 32,85,000 zolpidem tablets, even as two people attempted to remove it. Kader Mohideen Ali Jinna and Jahir Hussain, who transported the drug, and Syed Ibrahim and Shahul Hameed, who tried to conceal zolpidem tablets, were arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
