CHENNAI: The three-year-old daughter of a hawker, who ekes out a living by selling balloons, was allegedly kidnapped while the family slept under a bus shelter in the vicinity of the pavement where they usually sleep, on New Avadi Road under Ayyanavaram Police limits, on Tuesday morning.

Police said Karthik, the balloon seller, along with his pregnant wife Subbama shifted their shelter to the bus stand to escape the mosquito menace, on Monday night. The family which had little to spend on themselves and for their food started living on the pavement near the water tank on New Avadi Road. Karthik who woke up early in the morning was devastated to find his daughter missing. The couple screened the neighbourhood in vain. After a thorough search, the couple preferred a complaint with Ayyanavaram Police who had registered a missing complaint.

Karthik told the cops that his daughter never loitered away from their dwelling spot. “It is highly improbable for her to move away on her own. I suspect that she might have been kidnapped by someone”, he had told the cops. Ayyanavaram Police had alerted the CMBT and Railway Stations in the City to trace the child.
