Vijayakant-Vaiko Meet for An Hour to Discuss Alliance for 2016 Polls

CHENNAI: A meeting between DMDK leader Vijayakant and People’s Welfare Alliance leaders including MDMK general secretary Vaiko on Wednesday turned out to be more than an occasion to invite the actor to their alliance as it lasted for more than an hour in which the leaders elaborately discussed the current political scenario.

The People’s Welfare Alliance leaders including Vaiko, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi leader Thol Thirumavalavan, CPM State secretary G Ramakrishnan and CPI State secretary R Mutharasan met Vijayakant at the latter’s party office at Koyambedu. The meeting lasted for about 70 minutes.

The PWA leaders who came out of the meeting were visibly happy about the discussion and Vaiko who spoke to mediapersons described the discussion as ‘cordial’ and ‘useful’. The MDMK leader said they asked Vijayakant to join their alliance “to achieve a great turning point and new dawn in Tamil Nadu politics”. Vijayakant welcomed the PWA leaders with affection and promised to consider their request, the MDMK leader said and expressed  hope that the DMDK would join the PWA.

He also added that Tamil Maanila Congress leader GK Vasan too should join the PWA and said the leaders would invite him in person.

The mood in the meeting of PWA leaders with Vijayakant was contrary to his earlier meeting with the BJP leaders who spoke to him for just half an hour after waiting for more than an hour. During the meeting with BJP leaders the actor came out with many conditions to continue in the NDA and raised questions over the BJP Central leaders’ soft approach towards the AIADMK.

Vijayakant has shut doors on the DMK in an interview to a leading Tamil weekly and asserted that he would try to defeat both the AIADMK and DMK. However, DMK president reiterated his wish that the DMDK should join the DMK front, while speaking to reporters at the DMK headquarters.
