Stop Flick on Life of Forest Brigand: Plea

CHENNAI: A writ plea for a direction not to release the Tamil feature film depicting the life of the forest brigand Veerappan, was made in the Madras High Court, on Monday.

B Panneerselvi of Saminaickenpatti village in Salem district also prayed for a direction to the authorities to file reports granting ‘U’ certificate to the film.

The petitioner said the multilingual film, directed by Ramgopal Verma degrades the Tamil people.  In the Kannada trailer released on July 12, Sivaraj Kumar acting as the STF SP, Senthmarai Kannan, leads Operation Cocoon to capture Veerappan. The full trailer, released on  October 18 does not depict the encounter as having taken place in 2004 at the instance of the STF of Tamil Nadu.
