Lawyer's Bid to Help Actor Simbu Nipped

CHENNAI: A vacation bench of the Madras High Court has rejected a PIL questioning the rationale behind registering cases against actor TR Silambarasan in connection with the ‘beep song’.

The bench, comprising Justices K Kalyana Sundaram and S Vaidyanathan, which dismissed the petition on Tuesday observed that it was very unfortunate that the petitioner, a woman advocate, had knocked on the doors of this court even before her representation dated December 26 reached the authorities concerned. Further, she had not filed the postal receipt showing the date of dispatch of her representation. Hence, the court was not inclined to grant the relief, the bench said.

The PIL, filed by advocate P Balambal, also prayed for a direction to the police to register FIRs, like in the case of “beep song episode”, against all persons, who project women in bad taste and damage their modesty.
