Coast Guard Dismisses Report of Grounded Hovercraft

Indian Coast Guard has dismissed reports of its hovercraft being grounded during beaching operations.  Coast Guard said that section of the media had incorrectly reported on grounding of its hovercraft during beaching operation.

“The hovercrafts are useful for various close coast operations which otherwise cannot be undertaken by conventional ships since these crafts are capable of operating over land and over the sea,” Coast Guard said.

The Coast Guard said it operates hovercrafts regularly along the coastline towards surveillance, identification of possible landing sites for any emergent situation or evacuation.
