CHENNAI: Angry relatives of a 22-year-old painter who died at the Employee’s State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) run hospital in KK Nagar protested against the medical staff’s alleged negligence.
A Deva alias Vijayakumar of Vadapalani complained of chest pain around midnight on Friday and was taken to the hospital.
His mother Jayanthi, who accompanied him, alleged that it took more than half an hour for them to be let in.
Deva, who took water from some in-patients, died even as she was pleading with the nurses on duty to attend to her son.
The relatives filed a complaint with Ashok Nagar police against the duty doctor.
Ashok Nagar Police registered a case under 174 CrPC. Sources said the dead man had a couple of petty cases pending against him.
