Only PMK Can Ban Alcohol

CHENNAI:  PMK’s Chief Ministerial candidate Anbumani Ramadoss on Saturday said the party alone had the will to enforce prohibition in Tamil Nadu in the interest of the people, particularly women, and it would accomplish this task by capturing power in 2016 Assembly elections.

Speaking at an anti-liquor rally attended by large number of women, organised by the PMK at Kancheepuram, he said the biggest problem before the people was liquor consumption. At the national-level, liquor consumption claims over 18 lakh lives per year while two lakh die due to this in Tamil Nadu, he pointed out. “The number of those who die of liquor consumption is  higher than the lives claimed by cancer. Tamil Nadu tops in sales of liquor and this habit leads to numerous road accidents, sexual assaults on women etc., The highest number of young widows are there only in Tamil Nadu,” he said.
