CHENNAI: The Sivasubramania Swamy Temple in Saidapet was witness to over 5,000 people on Sunday morning as Maha Kumbhabhishekam was performed on lord Muruga, the main deity of the temple. The kumbhabhishekam, a ritual involving bathing the deity’s idol with milk, honey, water etc, and believed to synergise and unite the mystic powers of the deity, began at the temple at 9 in the morning came to an end at 10.30 am, as devotees eagerly waited to get the holy water as prasadam.

According to temple authorities, the kumbhabhishekam, was held on account of chitra pournami, which is an auspicious day in the Hindu calendar, especially for the Shaivaites who believe in lord Muruga.
