Pregnant Passenger Goes Into Labour, Forces Emergency Flight Landing in Chennai

CHENNAI: A pregnant passenger who had labour pains forced a Phuket-bound Qatar Airways flight to make an emergency landing in Chennai on Thursday afternoon. 

Immigration officials at the airport gave temporary medical visa to the 36-year-old woman and her husband.

Rayninn from the Philippines was first taken to airport hospital before being taken to a private hospital.

The flight from Doha to Phuket, Thailand had 169 passengers on board when the incident happened. Rayninn was first attended by medical crew onboard when she reportedly starting bleeding.

The cabin crew informed the pilot, who contacted air traffic control, Chennai, the nearest airport, seeking permission for an emergency landing at around 2.30 pm. The request was granted immediately.

The flight finally resumed its journey at 4.30 pm.
