CHENNAI: A doctor at the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Egmore, attacked a nurse on duty with footwear on Monday – the day observed across the world as Nurses Day. The incident triggered a protest by nurses. According to sources, Valarmathi (34) was engaged in a writing work. At around 9.30 am, Selvaraj (30) entered the room and allegedly attacked her with his footwear. Follwing this, over 150 nurses protested demanding action against the doctor. However, the doctor apologised to the nurse following which the agitating nurses dispersed.
An enquiry has been ordered by the management.
