New Rly Police Station to be Added Advantage

CHENNAI: A separate railway police station is likely to be constructed at the Mambalam Station for the benefit of the passengers, who currently need to go to Egmore station to register complaints or cases. Speaking to City Express, GRP SP S Vijaykumar said that a proposal had been submitted to the DRM, who carried out a joint inspection of the site with the GRP Inspector General Seema Agarwal.

“We have zeroed in on a location inside the station premises. The only other railway police stations on the route are at Egmore and Tambaram and we felt that another one was needed in the middle of the route,” he said, adding that Mambalam was a strategic choice given its high footfalls and proximity to the shopping hub.

“A new police station would make it easier to address complaints of women’s safety, trespass on tracks, etc.,” he said. Officials at Mambalam Station revealed that the GRP police station is likely to come up at the northern end of the station. The proposal will be studied by the Engineering department of Chennai division and work is likely to begin soon, sources added.
