Abducted Realty Firm Manager Saved after Kidnap Vehicle Gets Stuck in Sand

CHENNAI:The senior manager of a Delhi-based real estate investment company was allegedly kidnapped from Nesapakkam on Saturday. But luckily, he was rescued when the wheels of the MUV in which he was kidnapped got stuck in sand and locals alerted police on hearing his cries for help.

MGR Nagar police, who are investigating the case, said they are interrogating two persons in connection with the incident and the main accused are yet to be traced. The chain of events unfolded around 5 pm on Saturday when five men forced the victim Mohandas (45) into the vehicle from near his company’s office at Nesapakkam. The company is already facing trouble with the CBI investigating a case for allegedly cheating investors with ponzi schemes across the country.

Police suspect Mohandas was kidnapped by a few Chennai-based investors to get their money back from the company. “The complainant got into the vehicle as someone had asked him to meet them to discuss an issue. But soon after, they started assaulting him and demanded Rs 50 lakh to free him,” said a police officer.

The vehicle was moving near Neelankarai when its wheels got stuck in sand. As attempts to retrieve the vehicle failed, the gang started manhandling Mohandas and asked him to arrange the ransom immediately. “Locals grew suspicious about the happenings and alerted the control room. A police team rushed to the spot and the gang escaped on seeing them. Only the driver and another person was caught,” said a police officer.

An FIR was registered on the incident. However, police declined to confirm if any arrest has been made. “We are still tracing a few key persons operating from behind the scenes. So we cannot reveal much information,” said an investigating officer.
