CHENNAI:A woman and her daughter were robbed of eight sovereigns of jewellery at knifepoint by two unidetified men who broke into their house near Gummidipoondi on Saturday night.

A police officer said, “The robbers snuck inside noiselessly through the rear door of the house. They searched the rooms stealthily to locate the almirah. Only after a few minutes did Sulochana notice the  burglars and raise an alarm.”

Sulochana (57) and her daughter Kalpana (35) were sleeping in the hall while Arun and his wife were sleeping inside a locked bedroom and were unaware of the incident, sources said

The police officer said, “The complainants said that the two robbers brandished a knife and threatened to harm them if they made any noise, so the women did not alert Arun. The robbers then asked the women to hand over all the jewellery they were wearing and fled. About eight sovereigns of gold jewellery were taken by the thieves.”

The family members told the police that the unidentified robbers were fluent in Tamil and had coated their body with oil. Police have collected forensic evidence from the spot and are investigating further.
