Gloom Descends on Home of city Trekker

CHENNAI: A pall of gloom descended on the residence of a young man from Chennai who was killed in Kodaikanal when a tree fell on him while he was trekking, on Monday.

According to one of the relative’s of the victim, who was identified as V Vinoth Vijay (27), hailing from Janaki Ram Nagar in Manali, got married to V Mary Moulisha in January.

The victim’s brother, V Vignesh Vijay, got married on May 6.

The two couples planned a trip to Kodaikanal and left Chennai on Friday accompanied by Vinoth’s parents Vijay and Rajathi.

Vinoth is a marine engineer, who was employed in Singapore and his wife is three-months pregnant.

Vinoth’s body was brought to Chennai late on Monday night and the cremation is likely to be held on Tuesday.

According to a statement by the police, the family was scattered at the time of the accident. Around 11 am, when the tourists were trekking, an old tree fell on them. “It was raining heavily during the last few days. The tree was uprooted due to strong winds here,” added an official.
