Fake Salesmen Kill Home-alone Woman

CHENNAI:  Posing as salesmen for water-purifying equipment, two unidentified assailants murdered a 55-year-old woman in Porur on Thursday and made away with the 2.5 sovereign gold chain she was wearing, an incident that has shocked residents here.

According to police, Gloria, a spinster, was living alone in her residence at Lakshmi Nagar Extension, Third Cross Street in Porur. Her uncle, who resides in a house in the sixth street, and her niece would occasionally come over to sleep the night at her place.

On Thursday, two men approached her pretending to be salesmen for water-purifying equipment. An unsuspecting Gloria, who was with her niece at the time, let the duo in and as soon as she did so, the duo demanded she part with jewels and cash. The niece managed to escape the clutches of the assailants and hurriedly looked for help.

Meanwhile, the duo ended up strangling Gloria to death and made away with her gold chain. The assailants were gone before help arrived and the public assembled at

Gloria’s house. Police were notified of the incident and the body was moved for autopsy.

An investigating officer told Express that they suspected the assailants to be from Minjur and that a special team is on the hunt to nab the culprits.
