CHENNAI: A 50-year-old AIADMK councillor of the Mannivakkam panchayat in Otteri near Vandalur was hacked to death by a six-member gang in broad daylight near his house on Thursday.
The victim, G Krishnarajan, was the 12th ward councillor of the panchayat and lived in Vivekanandar Nagar near MGR Salai in Mannivakkam. He was returning home on his scooter after attending to personal work when around 10.30 am, the gang intercepted him in a car, flagging him down on the pretext of asking for an address and hacked him to death.
According to police, Krishnarajan was promoting real-estate business in Mannivakkam area. “We suspect this to be a revenge attack by another land-shark for whom the victim must have been a hindrance,” said the investigating police officer.
Post-mortem examination was conducted on the body before being handed over to relatives. The victim is survived by his wife and two daughters.
