CHENNAI: Two coaches of an EMU train on the MRTS route caught fire near the Perungudi railway station on Wednesday morning at around 8 30 AM. No passengers were injured.
Fire tenders were pressed into service at 8 50 AM. The coaches were separated from the 9 car formation. The train was going from Velachery to Chennai Beach.
The coaches have been fully gutted and eye witnesses recalled that the fire tenders were delayed as the approach roads to the spot weren't in good condition.

Sources attribute the cause to an electrical short circuit, but officials said that the complete picture would emerge only after a detailed enquiry.
