MRTS Coaches Catch Fire on Vijaya Dasami Near Perungudi

Two coaches of an EMU train on the MRTS route caught fire near Perungudi railway station in Chennai around 8 30 AM, no casualties reported.

CHENNAI: Two coaches of an EMU train on the MRTS route caught fire near the Perungudi railway station on Wednesday morning at around 8 30 AM. No passengers were injured.


MRTS Coaches Catch Fire Near Perungudi 

Fire tenders were pressed into service at 8 50 AM. The coaches were separated from the 9 car formation. The train was going from Velachery to Chennai Beach.

The coaches have been fully gutted and eye witnesses recalled that the fire tenders were delayed as the approach roads to the spot weren't in good condition.

Sources attribute the cause to an electrical short circuit, but officials said that the complete picture would emerge only after a detailed enquiry.
