Rail Minister Flags Off Stainless Steel Coaches

CHENNAI: Railway Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu flagged off the first Linke Hoffman Bosch (LHB) AC III tier coach and the last LHB power car out of seven power cars for 2015-16 for the Southern Railway through video conferencing from Thiruvananthapuram Central Station on Friday.

The Minister also flagged off the 24th Electrical Multiple Unit (EMU) rake of Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) Phase-II to the Mumbai suburban service on the day.

The ICF received an order to supply 72 EMU rakes (12 car each) to MRVC in Phase II. The first two prototype rakes were dispatched in October 2013 and the series production of these rakes started in July 2015. 

LHB AC III tier coaches have stainless steel body, based on LHB-German technology and have improved ride quality. Noise level inside AC coaches is restricted to 60 dB with sound insulation coating and floor decoupling elements. Anti-injury features are provides. Speed is upgradable to 200kmph.

It is the first-of its kind stainless steel EMU coach designed with straight sidewall and fluted panel for roof and LED boards.
