pregnant wife suspected of killing man

Chennai: Police have detained Gowri, wife of Raji (29), a load man at the Vanagaram fish market along Chennai-Bangalore Highway, in connection with his suspicious death in his house in Pattabiram. Raji’s decomposed body was found in his house on Monday. On information, the Pattabiram police took the body to government hospital for autopsy. Following a probe, police found that Raji and his wife Gowri used to have frequent tiffs. Police said the woman had pushed a drunk Raji during a fight and left him to die. Gowri, who was pregnant, left home with her 18-month-old boy and went to her mother’s house in Andhra Pradesh.  “We have been investigating the woman and are waiting for the autopsy report,” police said. Pattabiram police have registered a case and are investigating.

Construction worker dies after fall

Chennai: In a tragic incident, a 45-year-old construction worker succumbed to his injuries on Monday evening after he fell from the third floor of an under-construction building. Police said, Natraj, of Ramapuram, was standing on a platform on the third floor of the building at Kamaraj Nagar in Thiruvanmiyur. The platform was attached to a pulley and was carrying construction material. Suddenly, at 8.20 am, he tripped and fell down from height of 30-ft. He sustained head injuries and was rushed to a private hospital in the locality where he succumbed later. The body was sent to Royapettah Government Hospital for autopsy. The Thiruvanmiyur police arrested Arumugam (45), the building owner on charges of negligence.

Action Against corrupt PF Commissioner

Chennai: A month after the CBI arrested Regional Provident Fund Commissioner Durga Prasad on bribery charges, the Centre on Tuesday said departmental action would be initiated against him after a report is received from the investigating agency. According to a senior official with the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment, a final call on the issue would be taken after the investigating agency gives the report in this regard. In mid-January, the Anti-Corruption Bureau of the CBI nabbed Prasad on charges of demanding  `25 lakh bribe to favour an educational institution in misrepresenting the wages of its employees for the purpose of PF deduction or remittance. CBI team intercepted the vehicle in which Prasad was travelling after collecting `14.5 lakh from one of the conduits.
