Folk Artist Kovan Held After Supporting JNU

CHENNAI: The folk artist Kovan along with 57 people were arrested in the city on Thursday for a sit-in protest near Shastri Bhavan, Nungambakkam against the arrest of JNU student union president Kanhaiya Kumar and demanded his release.

The protesters raised slogans condemning the Union Government for politicising the JNU issue. They also demanded removal of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) from all educational institutions.

Minutes after they began the protest, police rounded them up and detained them in a community hall.
