CHENNAI: With the summer creeping in sooner than usual, the State Government has begun distributing buttermilk and lemon juice to traffic police personnel. An official statement here said the Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa issued an order to this effect so that traffic police could work well. Buttermilk or lemon juice would be offered according to their preference, the statement added. The Chief Minister had announced a scheme in 2012 for distributing lemon juice four times a day in summer to the traffic police personnel.
Following an appeal from some traffic police personnel that buttermilk should be provided instead of lemon juice, the State Government had issued an order last year to offer to supply either buttermilk or lemon juice depending on traffic police personnel’s preference between March and June to the scorching heat.
