CHENNAI: An order of a lower court giving life sentence to a woman, who killed a 3-1/2 year-old boy of her husband’s concubine, has been confirmed by Madras High Court.
Reaffirming that the prosecution had proved the guilt of the accused, the Bench of Justices M Jaichandran and S Nagamuthu upheld the order of the VI Additional Sessions Judge, Chennai, awarding life sentence to Poovarasi.
The woman had not only kidnapped the child, but also murdered him and stuffed the body in a suitcase. Then she transported it by bus to the boy’s father, who allegedly refused to marry her, the division Bench said.
The bench, however, modified the fine from Rs 50,000 on each count to a total sum of Rs 30,000.
The body of the boy Aditya of Virugambakkam was found in a suitcase in Nagapattinam on July 19, 2010 and Poovarasi was arrested on July 21, 2010.
